Describe exactly what happens at the start button
There is a meaningful difference between a key-not-detected message, a dashboard that stays dark, and an engine that turns over without starting. Tell the service provider which of those you see. Record the wording of any message while parked, along with whether the vehicle previously started using this same fob.
Also distinguish normal starting from remote start. A remote-start button that does nothing is a different complaint from a vehicle that will not start with the driver inside. The owner's manual explains the conditions for the features fitted to your car; a button on a replacement case is not proof that the vehicle supports that feature.
Honda's 2025 Pilot manual describes separate conditions for remote starting and normal engine starting. It also notes that key recognition can be affected by strong radio waves. Those are examples of why an unlock signal cannot settle every starting question, not a diagnosis for another vehicle.
Useful checks that do not change the security system
Consult the correct owner's manual for a low-fob-battery or key-not-detected situation. Some vehicles provide a designated backup recognition method. Chevrolet, for example, directs owners to the vehicle-specific transmitter pocket when the fob loses battery or signal power. The location and procedure depend on the model; a generic video may show a different system.
If you have a known working spare, tell the technician whether it starts the car. Do not keep cycling through internet reset routines, disconnecting batteries, or attempting to alter the immobilizer. Changing several things at once makes the original symptom harder to explain.
If neither key starts the vehicle, avoid concluding that both suddenly need programming. Ask whether the next appointment should be a key assessment, vehicle electrical diagnosis, or roadside assistance. A locksmith service and an engine repair are different scopes of work.
- Keep the exact warning message and the time the problem began.
- Identify which key was being used and whether another key behaves differently.
- Mention recent battery, key, ignition or vehicle work.
- Say whether the vehicle can be safely accessed at its current location.
Book the symptom you have
For a Jacksonville appointment, tell Locksmith 904 that the remote unlocks the doors but starting fails, then give the vehicle's make, model and year. That description is more useful than asking for a new key without mentioning the starting issue.
Bring the available keys and proof of ownership or authorization. Ask the technician to identify what the proposed work will address and how the result will be checked. Door-button operation and normal starting should be reviewed separately when both are included in the agreed service.
